FAQs: LASER becoming South Yorkshire Community Bank

Following our merger with Sheffield Credit Union last year, we are taking the next steps to unite our two credit unions. On Monday 20th July 2026:

  • We are changing our name to South Yorkshire Community Bank, with a new logo and new look. 
  • We’re also merging our systems, which means LASER members will have a new membership number, website at sycb.co.uk and need to use our new South Yorkshire Community Bank app from Monday 20th July. 
  • There will be a short period of downtime when the two credit union systems are integrated from Thursday 16th July at 4pm until Monday 20th July.

Member Update- Technical issues resolved

We are happy to say that our technical issues with our external provider have now been resolved. Thank you for your patience with this and sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Member Notice- Online technical issues

Please note due to technical issues with an external provider we are currently experiencing some online technical issues which are affecting our members making online withdrawals, payments and our phone lines are also affected. Our branch is operating as usual for cash withdrawals and we hope that this issue is resolved soon.

  • Wednesday 24th December: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Thursday 25th December: CLOSED
  • Friday 26th December: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday 31st December: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

  • We are changing the way we charge you
  • Currently we charge you £2 for every withdrawal that you make digitally (via our App) – the good news is with effect 1st October 2025 – this will be FREE
  • The request for withdrawals over the telephone will remain the same at £2.00
  • From 1st October 2025 we are introducing a £2 fee for withdrawals made at branch
