FAQs: LASER becoming South Yorkshire Community Bank
Following our merger with Sheffield Credit Union last year, we are taking the next steps to unite our two credit unions. On Monday 20th July 2026:
- We are changing our name to South Yorkshire Community Bank, with a new logo and new look.
- We’re also merging our systems, which means LASER members will have a new membership number, website at sycb.co.uk and need to use our new South Yorkshire Community Bank app from Monday 20th July.
- There will be a short period of downtime when the two credit union systems are integrated from Thursday 16th July at 4pm until Monday 20th July.
What is changing on Monday 20th July 2026?
Our systems:
We are merging all LASER Credit Union members and accounts on the same systems as Sheffield Credit Union. This is so that we can create a bigger and better organisation for everyone. That means LASER members will have a new membership number for South Yorkshire Community Bank.
There will be a short period of downtime when the two credit union systems are integrated from 16:00 on Thursday 16th July to 10:00 on Monday 20th July. During this time, you will not be able to access your savings or loan accounts.
Our name and look:
Together we will become South Yorkshire Community Bank, with a new logo and colours.

Why are you merging our systems?
Following the merger of Sheffield Credit Union and LASER Credit Union in 2025, we are now formally bringing together the two organisations under a single brand, South Yorkshire Community Bank.
Merging our systems means we will be able to operate as a single brand, offering the same services to everyone equally. It will also help us to manage our costs, which is important for every member to invest in better services and/or pay more in dividends over the long term.
Will this affect my service?
There will be a short period of downtime from Thursday 16th July at 4pm until 10am Monday 20th July when we integrate the two systems.
The branch will also be closed for renovations from 15th July, reopening on 20 July. You will be unable to withdraw cash during this period. To help mitigate this we have increased our limit for cash withdrawals on 13th and 14th July.
Members will be kept informed about this throughout.
You will still be able to access your accounts online on 15th and until 4pm on 16th July.
Other than that, the day-to-day service of your accounts will not be affected. Our phone number, address and opening times will remain the same and you will be able to use both our Rotherham and Sheffield branches, whichever is more convenient. Please note that our Sheffield branch does not have cash available.
If you use the LASER app or online services, you will need to switch to the South Yorkshire Community Bank app or online services from 10:00 on Monday 20th July as the LASER app and online services will no longer be accessible from 4pm on Thursday 16th July 2026.
